Join the fight against Part 3A

Stop Part 3A
A current influx of development applications bypassing local council and going straight to the NSW Department of Planning suggests developers believe this may be their last chance before the March 2011 NSW election to fast-track their unsympathetic and greedy developments. Part 3A developments are negatively affecting communities throughout NSW.

Spend a moment to send an email to NSW Govt and Opposition politicians asking them to repeal the Part 3A law and return planning authority to local councils. Visit www.stoppart3a.com and use the quick and easy email - just pop in your details and click the button.

What is Part 3A?

In 2005 the NSW Labor Government ammended the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 by introducing the Part 3A law to deal with major projects valued at more than $100 million or deemed of regional significance.

This removed the local councils from the planning processes. The developer can apply directly to the NSW Department of Planning. Often the plans are only on public exhibition for 30 days and the residents who would be affected by the development are not necessarily notified.

The public can make submissions/comments to the Department of Planning during the exhibition period, but this is their last chance for involvement in the matter.

To see what Part 3A development applications are on exhibition now, visit "On Exhibition" at the NSW Department of Planning website.
